Bon Iver Interpreted

The Bon Iver Interpreted Series is a collection of five collage works inspired by Bon Iver’s studio albums. Rather than recreating the album artwork, each piece responds to the atmosphere, themes and emotional landscape of the music. Created as a single body of work, the series gradually shifts in colour, composition and form, reflecting the journey across the albums while remaining open to the viewer’s own interpretation.

Working within the same format and materials across all five pieces allowed recurring visual ideas to emerge naturally. Circles, typography, maps, found imagery and fragments of landscape appear throughout the series, gradually shifting from open, organic compositions towards more structured forms. Although each collage stands alone, together they form a visual conversation about memory, place, identity and the quiet ways we change over time.

For Emma, Forever Ago

Created in response to Bon Iver’s debut album, this collage explores isolation, memory and quiet resilience. Sparse compositions, natural imagery and recurring circular forms reflect a world that feels open, uncertain and deeply personal.

Bon Iver, Bon Iver

Inspired by the album’s broader, more expansive sound, this piece introduces maps, geometry and layered landscapes alongside organic forms. It marks a shift from solitude towards connection while retaining a sense of mystery.

22, A Million

The most fragmented work in the series, this collage embraces symbols, disruption and visual noise. Built around layered typography, abstract forms and sharp contrasts, it reflects an album that searches for meaning without expecting simple answers.

i,i

Brighter and more communal, i,i brings people, colour and movement back into the series. The collage balances structure with spontaneity, exploring ideas of identity, belonging and the shared experiences that shape us.

SABLE/fABLE

The final piece reflects a quieter sense of acceptance. Softer colours, architectural forms and everyday moments replace much of the earlier symbolism, bringing the series to a close with a feeling of stability, reflection and home.
