Interpreting bon iver
Some albums stay with you long after they’ve finished. Bon Iver’s discography has always done that for me. Rather than trying to illustrate the music directly, I wanted to explore how each album feels.
Each collage is built while listening to a single record, using found paper, typography, maps, symbols and texture to reflect the atmosphere of the music. Some are sparse and quiet, others are layered and chaotic, following the emotional journey of the albums themselves.
The series isn’t intended to recreate the original artwork. It’s a personal interpretation of the music and the memories, places and emotions it evokes. It’s about translating sound into something visual, allowing each piece to develop naturally as the album unfolds.
It’s also become one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve worked on. Revisiting albums I know so well through collage has made me notice details I’d never paid attention to before, and each piece feels like a conversation between the music and the materials rather than an attempt to explain either.
